    Default Those aren't sardines in them there sardine cans!

    The canning proces for herring was developed on the Italian island of Sardinia, which is why canned herring are more commonly called sardines.

    I've always wanted to know that.....

    But how did they shrink the herrings to get 'em into the can?

    are you serious?

    1- the name Sardinia comes from Shard (in latin known as Sardus Pater), he was an ancient god for nuragics (the people who inhabited sardinia from the bronze age)

    2- sea around Sardinia is not rich of sardines

    but aren't herring and sardines different species or are you suggesting cans of Italian sardines are actually baby herring ?
