After We're looking at the differences between northern and southern Italy, now let's take a look at the major areas prensent in Italy

This is the map of our travel:

Torino
Region: Piemonte
Region capital: Yes
Area: 130 kmē (equal to 50 milesē)
Population: 910,188
Tipical dish: "Agnolotti", fresh pasta stuffed with seasoned meat sauce or a sauce of roast
Curiosity: Torino was the first capital of Italy between 1861 and 1865



Milano
Region: Lombardia
Region capital: Yes
Area: 184 kmē (equal to 71 milesē)
Population: 1,301,394
Tipical dish: "Risotto alla milanese", rice with saffron
Curiosity: It's know in the worldwide as the "fashion city"



Venezia
Region: Veneto
Region capital: Yes
Area: 414 kmē (equal to 160 milesē)
Population: 271,009
Tipical dish: "Cicheti", little morsels of meat and fish that replacing the meal; "Risi e bisi", fried of bacon and onion with peas and rice (thanks to Giacomo)
Curiosity: Every year there is the international film festival of Venezia

Region: Emilia-Romagna
Region capital: No
Area: 134 kmē (equal to 52 milesē)
Population: 141,209
Tipical dish: "Piada", a flat dish bread-like cooked on a plate
Curiosity: With Riccione and Cattolica is one of the favorite European tourist resort



Firenze
Region: Toscana

Tipical dish: "Bistecca alla fiorentina", 1kg-1,5Kg of Fillet steak derived from cow and barbecued.
Curiosity: Italy's capital between 1865 and 1871. In the Middle Ages was an important cultural and economic center.

Tipical dish: "Arvoltolo", fried bread
Curiosity: It is home to one of the oldest University of italy(founded 1308), in addition to the major universities for foreigners in Italy.



Roma

Tipical dish: "Saltimbocca alla romana", ham rolled in slices of meat with sage
Curiosity: It is the most populous municipality, the largest in Italy.



Napoli

Tipical dish: "Pastiera", a sweet of ricotta and wheat in a disc of puff pastry
Curiosity: The artistic heritage is protected by UNESCO

Enzo this post is beautiful and I learned so much! I also know that in Veneto another very typical dish is called Risi e Bisi which is a rice dish with peas.

As for the Pastiera Napoletana...we have that every Easter. It's been a recipe in my family for years! It's so good!

Looks great. The only the suggestion I have is to stop in Verona and forse Vicenza since they are on that route from Milano to Venice.
