Default dual citizenship question HELP

Hi all ,
I'd like to establish dual citizenship. I have much family in Italy. So to the question.
My grandfather was born in Italy and became a NATURALIZED citizen of the US for serving in the US Armed Forces during WW1. All his children were born during the 20's. I don'tknow if my grand mother became a US citizen .
M aunt married an Italian citizen in the 60's and became an Italian citizen
What are my chances of obtaining a dual citizenship?? Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Giacomo

Default dual citizenship

Hello,
I received my citizenship through my Grandfather who was born in Italy and came to America as a child. His first born was my Father and to that point my Grandfather had not become a U.S. Citizen so my father automatically was an Italian citizen even though born in the U.S. and his children after that (including myself) were automatically Italian citizens. After my Father's birth my Grandfather became a U.S. citizen and his 2nd born (my uncle) is not an Italian citizen even though he's 25 years older than me because once my Grandfather became a U.S. citizen it disqualified my uncle.

I don't know why the Italian government has this law or if it has changed recently but it's best to contact the Italian embassy and explain your situation and they'll be able to guide you.

As for marriage it takes 3 years of marriage to an Italian citizen before you can apply for citizenship and then it may be up to a 5 year waiting period to get your Italian citizenship after that. It's very difficult but again you should contact the local Italian embassy to see if any rule changes have been made.

Take care,
Dave
