My husband and I are looking to relocate to Italy 2010. We have decided that we want to be in a city, we will not be dependent on work although if we can pick up bits here and there that would be good. We have narrowed down our search to Palermo and Firenze I know they could not be more different but we have both been captivated by them both.

We have just returned from Palermo and will be visiting Firezne in 3 weeks, Palermo is winning with me at the moment but then I have not been to Firenze since March. Any advice is really appreciated and I will have many questions over the coming months.

Welcome here, I wish you good luck with the move you're planning.
We'll try to help you at best with your questions. For now I can only say I'd prefer Firenze, Palermo has some criminality problem, water supply is not constantly top level, and the weather is desert-like in summer. I also think Florence can give more job opportunities. But the choice is really up to you, probably there are good and bad sides in both cities only you can see.
One tip: don't judge based on the look and beauty of the city, once you live there for a lot of time you stop noticing it, try to understand what it would be like living there for a long time.
