Hi, I've lived in Italy for 8 years, but I just realized that I'm late in renewing my permesso di soggiorno. I'm going to go right away on Monday to renew it and see what they tell me, but I wanted to know if anyone has had this experience and what happened. I read that the leniency period is 60 days, but I think i'm 70 days past the renewal date! Help!!!!

I wouldn't worry. I had an expired permesso for most of 2 years, though I applied to renew - it took forever to come through. No one ever asked to see it and my local police station just treated this as a PITA. They really weren't concerned about it.
