Question nursing in italy

Hi,

Does anyone know how easy it is to get work as a nurse in italy?
I'm learning italian, but i'm only at a basis level at present.
Is there any private english speaking hospitals or clinics over there, who would employ an english registered nurse?

My husband is actually a NP and a citizen of Italy. I am an echocardiographer. Our degree's do in fact transfer and there is plenty of work here. However, the problem for me is a command of the Italian language. It is a must. There also seems to be a shortage of nurses here as well. The work system for nurses seems to be different from what I am accustomed to in America. Here, many of the nurses perform the same functions of medical assistants in America, all day. It is not uncommon to see a registered nurse at the front desk of the emergency room. The doctors also perform a lot of their own testing as opposed to delegating it to nurses, technologists, etc.
For the most part, I don't think you will have a problem finding work as long as you have a command of Italian.

A friend of mine is a nurse in Vicenza, Italy. She
works at the U.S. Army hospital there. She will
be here domani. Will ask her about work for you.

Her husband works as a teacher at the U.S. Army
high school for dependence in Vicenza. He doesn't
have a teacher's degree per se, just a degree.
They need teachers.

Hi Emma,
I'm an ICU nurse working for a Sicilian hospital, part of the UPMC Pittsburgh. The site is www.ismett.edu Why don't you send your CV on line and see what happens?! We have a lot of American colleagues and I'm sure the recuiting specialist can have some good advice for you, maybe even a job!
