Default American Artist

Hi!

My wife and I are hoping to relocate to Italy within the next couple of years. She is a first generation Italian-American via her father who came to the US many years ago, and we are planning to visit her family's home town in Fossalto. We are hoping to investigate getting her citizenship there (and mine as well... we've been married over three years).

My background has been in land surveying and mapping. But nowdays I have been a full-time artist.

I am curious as to whether it would be feasible for me to earn much as a 'street' artist there. I have always dreamed of living in Italy, traveling the countryside, painting architecture and landscapes, perhaps selling my work to tourists. Otherwise would my Bachelor's degree in Art History be of any use for finding work in the museums? Perhaps as a tour guide?

We are studying Italian now, and I have now doubt of learning the language in that I pick up languages rather well (I already speak fluently in German and some French)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A truly wonderful country!

hi chris, I can't advise you on Italy 'cos I've never been there but I think it's great that you are learning Italian and have plans to move to Italy

I have seen this post but this was a difficult post to answer.
My job is to manage this website and 3 more one that sells Italian hand painted ceramics one that sells fresco, one for the school of ceramics ( see Ceramic school - pottery workshops - ceramic classes in Italy ) ...
Anyway recently it has been more difficult to be an artist in Italy - Umbria for example had many places where people where making hand painted pottery but the competition from China makes it much more difficult now than what it was 10 years ago. Also the oil painting marked has been somehow damaged from Computer made paintings for example - It is still possible to make it as an artist but now it is just much more difficult ....My thoughts !
