Default Under The Southern Sun

Ciao a Tutti

A third generation American Italian by the name of Paul Paolicelli wrote a book called "Under The Southern Sun" (2001) In his book he shares his experience travelling thru Italy and discovering his grandparents roots who where born in Abruzzo. His decision to explore his family roots came after attending a former New York Governor Mario Como seminar who was a fist generation American Italian that spoke about the sacrifices his Italian immigrant parents made in America. Paul Paolicelli a writer now makes his home in the town of Amantea. A historical seaport town located next to my own hometown of Grimaldi along the beautiful shores of the Calabria Riviera. Paul writes about how disappointed he was intially travelling in the north of Italy visiting all the tourist traps such as Milano, Vience, Florence and today's ancient Rome. 15 years later at the age of 60, Paul has made Amantea his permant home and continues too write books educating travellers where the true roots of our Italian culture are to be found "Under the Southern Sun" in the south of Italy.

Well..dont you just love it when certain courageous people get up on morning, pack their bags, say goodbye to the North American stress out, overpriced, unsocial, unhealthly lifestlyle and head back to their family homeland to discover their roots and remaining there for the rest of their lives..Wow! Pour some wine can we talk?

Read the book first "Under the Southern Sun" and I will be waiting for you to join me on my next Calabria Riviera Tour. Lets face it ..where in the world could you live in a G8 Country as fabulous as Italia owning a property without having to pay property taxes and paying less than 1500 american dollars per year to maintain it. Most important is you get a lifestyle as well! What the hell are we doing back home paying on average over a thousand american dollars per month in property taxes for a home we already paid for, while shopping to buy and eat chemically treated food! Is this not suicide..are we pazzo?

Baci a tutti

Default Re: Under The Southern Sun

This is something I have wished to do myself, when I was I my early 20's I visited my parent's place of birth and thought wow what a lifestyle. It was unfortunate that my dad relinquished some property to relatives as it would have been ideal to keep and now I would not hesitate to move there, and do in reverse what my parent's accomplished coming to Australia. I would be interested to know of prices of a three bedroomed place close to local facilities on the coast close to a town called Taurianova awaiting your reply thanks from AussieChick
