Default World Cup

What was it like in Italy a couple of years ago when Italy won the World Cup? What types of celebrations were there? I know that in Italy, soccer is taken very seriously so I can imagine that the atmosphere was very exciting and festive. Any thoughts?

That's a good question.

I also know that Italy is one of the countries that take soccer very seriously. I thought when we went on vacation to Sicily in October they would still be celebrating the win. I thought maybe they would still have banners celebrating their wins. I guess in Sicily they don't celebrate the whole entire year like I thought they would. lol

I myself was hoping France would win. Sorry!!!

It was also the very first World Cup I watched since soccer isn't as big in the USA like football, baseball, and basketball is.

Well actually it's been the only world cup I've seen so far. The next one is in 2010 right?

I watched the final match in Circo Massimo, we were 500.000 persons.. then all the city was in the streets, italian flag everywhere, music, songs, many agains France.. that night I went to sleep into the lawn under the Colosseo with my friends.. I had the italian flag designed on my face.. it was a fantastic experience..the party continued the next night when the team come back.. there was a show in Circo Massimo with the exposition of the cup..

I was in Naples when that happened and needless to say we didn't get much sleep, with all the fireworks, horns and even guns. There was a big party downtown and a lot of the American military and their families went down to party , it was pretty cool and very memorable.

I didn't know that guns were legal in Italy. Well at least not the way they are in the USA.

I would be a little scared of guns being fired. I would be affraid of accidently being shot.

Yes ,guns are legal, but do you really think that would stop them? There was a person killed in Italy this passed New Year's because of someone shooting into the air.

No. I know that wouldn't stop some from getting guns illegally. However, if tey are illegal I wouldn't think too many people would get guns to shoot off.

I don't know how to explain what I mean. lol

Hunting is popular in Italy. At any rate we had a thread on this subject before you came on the forum.
Some gun loving American wanted to take a bunch of his guns with him to Italy. It was a fun thread.
Very controversial. Remember that one anybody? Giacomo was in on it. I enjoyed it.

Funny how if you shoot a shotgun straight up in the air the pellets will harmlessly fall back down on you.
As kids we tried this out in the desert. Don't try it though. Just take my word for it.
