Default US does it again!

Nouran and Falco, after your thread on Massr vs Italia, which was followed by the US defeating Massr (oops), the US has now defeated Spain! That's scary! Spain was undefeated since 2006 and the upstart Americans won?

I'm going to be torn if the US ever plays against Italia in the World Cup.

I'm so very happy US won!
It's been a great match, US played it all on the heart and courage. Little technical skills, but a great defense, impressive that Yagobo (or something like that), he looked like a human wall. Good goalkeeper too.
Howard, Yagobo, Donovan and Dempsey seemed the most skilled ones, also Clark. If they find 6 more on that level they'll grow up even faster as a National team.

from now, i'm not sad any more
the fabulous team who beat us in the last fixture knocks out Spain (and i don't need to explain what Spain means in the soccer language )
i'm going to change my signature

now i'm reading the report of the match:
Altidore & Dempsey have done it in the 27',74'

Congratulations, Steve and every single person in America .. you deserve it

Default Good but not such a surprise that the U.S. beat Spain

Have been a soccer coach for the AYSO - The American Youth Soccer Organization.(for boys and girls)
The AYSO is very well organized. A friend who was a soccer star in Argentina and now an AYSO soccer coach
says there is nothing like the AYSO in Argentina which is one of the best soccer countries in the world.
The AYSO started in the 1960's. The AYSO is in 48 of the U.S. states. Now almost every single high school
and college has a soccer program in the U.S. They get players from the AYSO that started playing soccer
as young as 3 or 4 years old. Really no wonder that the U.S. beat Spain. They are building more soccer
fields every day in the U.S.
We already had football fieds for soccer but now they are building or have been building soccer fields
just for soccer.

Hispanics living in California have many leagues of soccer and you can see them practicing and playing games every day.
They especially Mexicans have been playing soccer in California long before it became popular with Americans.

Besides the AYSO there are other youth soccer programs for both boys and girls. I would venture to
say that more girls and women play soccer in the U.S. than in anyother country in the world.

Default Re: US does it again!

All very nice comments on the Confederations Cup. I do believe the US victory over Spain was a surprise, given their losses to Italy and Brazil in the first two matches before knocking out a victory over Egypt. Many Americans like myself often get asked, actually, why we have so many kids in our youth leagues (nice comments on the AYSO, too), yet are still often behind other countries and also have a professional league that is really not on the same level as other leagues such as the Premier League, Serie A or even Ligue 1. Certainly the States would be wise to have more cooperation and play with Mexico as well as all Latin America. The US is moving in that direction, as it hosts more matches with Latin American professional teams in US cities and also with the MLS having a US side of a Mexican professional club, Chivas.

As for Italia, it is hard to read this one. The Confederations Cup is not so important, and as Marcello Lippi quipped, the team that wins the Confederations Cup never goes on to win the World Cup the following year. Nonetheless, Italy's poor performance bodes badly for the Azzurri and Serie A. Too many old players held over from the World Cup in 2006 and not enough impact younger players. An exodus of big name stars such as Kaka from Serie A also indicates that Italy is not winning the money game versus England and Spain. It is a shame, because in 2006, Italy proved football and Italy go hand in hand. Now, people are questioning the level of play in Serie A after a disastrous Champions League this year and a poor Euro performance.

USA deserve to win the maatch, without doubts.
Now I hope that they can beat Brazil or RSA in the Final, it could be important for the Soccer-movement in the USA.

TNChris,

Many thanks for the insights! My enthusiasm for soccer dates from the 2006 season. We were in Milano when Italy won over Ghana and the enthusiasm on the Piazza overwhelmed us.

Mexico Vs US match is a kind of heartbreaking. I thought the US going to beat Mexico at least for now since they are in the final but instead got beaten 5-0.

Bad Results.
