Cool High School Sports in Italy

Just a question about high schools in Italy. Are there sports for high school students for male and female.Do the high schools compete against each other . Here in America its huge, too huge.As in American football and basketball teams will travel all the way across country to play each other. Some games even on television.Parents pay thousands of dollars for high school sports and to get their kid into travel teams ,summer elite teams, and personal instructions in hope their child will get noticed for a college scholarship. Its a real big deal for kids here. Its part of their social makeup, the jocks and the nerds. We have state championships for all sports both male and female.Does Italy have anything similar?

Well, here's something you might not think of or know about. When I was living in Vicenza I would watch
the Vicenza high school play American football. Of course this was and is the American high school kids
who are the dependents of people in the Army. They would play the Air Force high school of Aviano, and
also Naples, Livorno, other places in Italy plus Austria and Germany e forse Belguim. They also have
baseball, track, basketball, soccer and softball for the girls. This has been going on per molto anni.

Italy now has professional American Football and basketball
which was influenced by the U.S. armed forces that are in Italy.

Italian high schools don't have the sport programs like we have in the U.S.
Funny how the U.S. is so organized now with even soccer with organizations
like the AYSO(American Youth Soccer Organization which has been around since
1964. I've been a soccer coach for them molte volte.

The American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) was established in the Los Angeles area in 1964 with
nine teams. It was the dream of a group of devoted soccer enthusiasts who started the organization
in a garage. Today, AYSO has more than 50,000 teams and more than 650,000 players. It also employs
50 people at its National Support and Training Center in Hawthorne, California. Almost as many
girls as boys now play soccer. You don't see this in Italy neanche.
