Default Italian Supercars and News

This thread is dedicated to anything and everything about Italian Cars.

Simply post your stories here, maybe we'll get a car section separate from the rest of the forum soon...

So first off, this isn't news to me, but maybe to others here, but Pininfarina custom made a one off racecar for a multi-billionare, and they named it the P4/5, based off the classic racecar used in LeMans in the mid 60's.

So anyways, here's some info I picked up on supercars.net. Its an amazing accomplishment!

"July 29th, 2006 - Recently, there has been a ton of commotion surrounding the discovery, by many fans, blogs and magazines, of a specially commisioned Ferrari that was rebodied and rebuilt by Pininfarina. The story has been unfolding on a specific Ferrarichat.com thread where James Glickenhaus revealed his dream his was coming true and a custom tailored Ferrari was being made for himself.

The project began in late 2005 when James purchased Ferrari's flagship Enzo supercar and immediately sent it to Pininfarina's design studio. Critical of the original styling, James requested that Pininfarina rebody his car drawing inspiration from Ferrari's 1960s prototypes of which he owns two magnificent examples. Pininfarina's team, led by Ken Okuyama, responded by saying that they wanted to stay away from retro design and move towards a more forward thinking supercar. No doubt, the two parties have come up with a clever balance.

To say that Pininfarnia simply rebodied the Ferrari this is a massive understatement. What James has revealed is that Pininfarina have spent considerable time in the wind tunnel and on the road to ensure the excellent dynamics of the Ferrari aren't lost. Over 200 custom parts were manufactured in the process including a custom interior with complicated hinges for the butterly doors. And, with a 374 lb (270 kg) weight reduction, the P4/5 is now one of the most fastest, stylish and usable cars of our time.

Another important aspect of the project is James' revival of the custom-built Ferrari. Back when Ferrari was an upcoming manufacturer, preferred clients would order a racing chassis and then have any number of design houses hand craft a custom body around it. This art all but disappeared with the widespread use of unit-body construction in the seventies that sent the cost of making these unique whips through the roof. However, the P4/5, and other, more secret Ferraris developed for the Sultan of Brunei have broke barriers and piqued our interest in the modern supercar.

For anyone wanting to catch a glimpse of the Ferrari P4/5 in person, it will make a debut at the Pebble Beach Concours in a few weeks and also be revealed to the international press at the Paris Motor Show at the end of September."

And now for the pictures!!!

Default Now that's a car...

Italian cars are sexier than most others. The lines, the colors, the sleekness... makes a girl's heart race.

Now imagine that kind of car, and a man in uniform, and you get what I saw this summer in Rome. The police and fire departments were on Via dei Fori Imperiali demonstrating their capabilities and the future of law enforcement in Italy, and they unveiled the newest car they have in their arsenal.

Check out my picture gallery for the latest in chasing down criminals....

Hah, I definitely saw that car before, and I must say that they're quite lucky to receive such a police cruiser! I just hope that Italians are aware of that police car when driving!!

Here's some more classic Italian cars:

2007 Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione

This is by far my favorite Alfa Romeo, close to the GTV6 of the late 80's just before Alfa Romeo left the United States due to poor sales. They are to return in 2009 to the USA.

Default Red cars

Great red car, Dan!

Did you see the latest Mission Impossible movie? Not the best movie but the I love the car! The color is great but I'm not sure... is that a Lamborghini Diablo?

Only picture I could find, doesn't show much.

The picture you posted is of the new Ford Mustang. However, the Lamborghini that was in Mission Impossible III was

The Lamboghini Gallardo. Sadly they blew it up!

Default Mustang???

Are you sure?
Hmmmm... you probably are. I think I got sidetracked by the color, and Tom Cruise driving it. And I cant see enough of it to pick it out.

It was a gorgeous car! And I heard a sigh of depression run through the audience when they blew the car up.

Thanks!

Yes, that is a Ford Mustang in the picture you posted. Here's something new for today:

Ferrari 575M Super America, very rare.

Here is one I had to post, the Lamborghini Murcielago Versace, one of only 10 in the world to be made.

Apparently the Versace LP640 is more a plug for Lamborghini in Milan and Versace in Paris than an actual attempt at a meaningful model. Upgrades are limited to interior fittings, custom luggage and styling touches.

Default Ten Italian Cars

What would it be like to be able to afford a Lamborghini of which only ten were made? Does it come with the women?

Since there are so few made, they are usually prepaid for at the actual car show! A number of wealthy people go to these shows simply to get their hands on these rare cars.

They are all spoken for after the shows end, this starting production of the car itself. Sadly they probably won't be driven very much, and merely be a timepiece or garage queen for their lives.

More Italian fun:

1967 Ferrari 330 GT Michelotti Coupe
