Default Italian American living in Milano

18 Nov 2008

I've been cruising the boards for a couple of weeks. I've enjoyed many posts and met some wonderful folks here, grazie milli a tutti (wonder if I got that right! feel free to correct me)

If it's ok, I thought I could share some of my experiences while I'm living here, in this section. If it's not ok, just let me know.

Last week, I joined a womans group called Benvenuto. They arrange activities and do charity work. Today, I attended a little casual event called a coffe. Probably 10 woman attended and we met in a cafe on Magenta. This is such a wonderful way to meet people, we're all relatively new to Milano, some being here longer than others. One of the ladies was talking about what a difficult time she was having buying tickets to see the Last Supper fresca, Santa Maria delle Grazie church. I mentioned that I thought the church was just down the block and I'd walk with her to check on ticket availability. There were five of us that took that walk.

Unfortunately for my new friend, she was unable to get the tickets she wanted for this Friday. There was a sign displayed saying that they were sold out of tickets for the day. As we stood there, there was cancellation for the next tour, in 15 minutes! I was one of three that could take advantage of the opportunity. So, I got to see, in person no less!, DaVinci's Last Supper. Wow, nice surprise on a cold, windy and cloudy day. I can't believe that this morning I was thinking about not making the trip to the Coffee, after all I don't even drink coffee any more.

The original is in MIlano, the one in the Lourve is the replica. I watched a show called Rick Steve's Europe and he did a segment from there. You can Google it and find that it is in MIlano.
ciao

ciao caragino

It's a fresca by the master DiVinci, not a copy. Come to Milano and we'll see it together.

ciao

hey Danno,

Is there a painting at the Lourve? I know I saw the real deal. If you google it, that is exactly how it looks in person, not very clear or crisp, it's old! LOL

As it gets colder here in the north, my thoughts wonder to the south...ah Calabria.

ciao

L' ultima cena is a fresco and therefore painted on a wall. And by the way I have 2 commercial website - One of them sells Fresco which where originally painted on a wall and then removed
