Default Need help identifying this work

Good afternoon,

I am new to the forums and have not had much luck doing internet searchs regarding this piece of art I have. I am hoping that someone here can assist me. No one in my family seems to know much either. I have attached pictures below and am hoping that someone may recognize it or possibly tell me who the artist is. Or if possible, could someone point me in the right direction to another art forum where I could ask. Thanks in advance

That is a very interesting piece. Can you type out the name on the back of the dish/plate as it cannot be seen on the photo.

Also does anybody know who the figures are? Are they famous Italian figures, that may be a start as perhaps they may have an Appreciation society that may know somehting.

How did you come to have it, how did you get it? Did a relative bring it with them when they left Italy.

I had a quick look in Millers 20th Century Ceramics - but it is very English / American focused. But I do not mind goign to the bookshop and having a read!

Not being able to read the name is my biggest obstacle at the moment. I cannot make it out. I have tried every trick I can think of to get the name to show, but nothing has worked well enough. The name is actually on the front of the workat the bottom by the edge, if that makes any difference.

I believe the last name to Paolo, but am not 100% sure on that.

It was left by Grandmother. She was not Italian, but she loved art and collected a variety of things. No one seems in the family seems to know anything about it though. Had it not been for the Mad in Italy stamp, I probably would have never known where to start looking for info on this.

Would it be possible for an art gallery to be able to identify this if I brought it in for them to look at? Thanks again

A fine arts dealer or appraiser would be the best bet - even if the piece turns out to be not that valuable, they see more examples of this kind of work than say an average antiques dealer and know what to look for. They usually have a book or database to look up the mark on the back. That's were I would go first.
