Hi
From my understanding there are no specific laws for selling a property you inherited unless there were prior outstanding unpaid tax issues when becoming the owner from the transfer of the deed during the transaction of the inheritance. They would have to be paid first in order to sell the property. This will be discovered by your own Lawyer or Notary that you hire to handle the sale of the condo.
The Letter: Never sign anything back unless you contact your own lawyer first to determine if this offer is legitimate. Is this a formalized “Contratto preliminare or Compromesso” at this point only a lawyer can determine that once he reads the letter, so seek legal advice to determine the legitimacy of the letter? I suggest you employ a home lawyer well versed in Italian real estate law and practice located close to your own residence in the USA.
Your mother in law apparently has received some form of an initial purchase offer and of course it’s up to your mother in law to accept the offer or refuse it at 65,000 Euros... its common in Italy for buyers to contact the true owner of the property first before proceeding with the drafts of legal documents. Seriously thou, have your own Lawyer address the buyer’s agent or representive who’s name is on this letter. Contact CJ a member of our forum for further legal advice or contact and visit the website of Giambrone Law and email Lawyer Ugo Tanda a copy of the letter you received for further instructions and legal advice. http://www.giambronelaw.co.uk/site/p...bronelaw.co.uk
