Default anybody know about compost toilets

Hi, we are a family moving to Tuscany and instead of installing a septic tank we are looking at installing a modern compost toilet system....does anybody know any regulations about permits, whether we can purchase in Italy, or any info at all...thanks and we look forward to hearing about this lovely subject...ha ha

Italy has a rigid national law regulating building and construction. However, each region has its own set of planning laws (which are constantly being amended) and for Tuscany you will need to refer to the specific Legge Regionale sulle norme urbanistiche e per l'edilizia residenziale. Your best bet is to talk to a local architect or geometra (kind of surveyor) and consult the Regione Toscana Ambiente e Territorio.

Thank you CJ. We have purchased our house and have employed a seemingly good geometre, who we will ask further advice from. I really just wondered if a compost toilet would be an accepted idea in Tuscany especially based on all that i've read about Italy's good record with eco credentials like solar power, water conservation, etc....

hi, you wanted to know about a compost toilet. I did read the article but dont remember in detail. If you google 'anaerobic dispenser' you will find all the information you need on recycling waste. ggod luck.
