Default Il Postino

I've heard that this is a good movie, but I can't find it sold anywhere here in Holland nor could I find it on an online site in England, France, or Belgium where you order from.

Does anyone happen to know an Italian online store that delivers to the rest of Europe? I'm assuming they sell the movie in Italy.

I don't want to download the movie because it's too big and I prefer to rend or buy movies.

Il Postino is a classical movie. The film won the BAFTA
Award for Best Film Not in the English Language. Here in the
U.S. you can rent it at practically any movie rental place.
Block Buster's, Hollywood Video e cosi via. NetFlix would be
your best bet or I can loan you my DVD of it. Do you have a
region free DVD player? Haven't watched this movie in moltissimo
tempo. Grazie. I think it's time to watch it ancora.

Plot
Mario Ruoppolo is a young man living in an insular Italian fishing village, on an island where time moves slowly.
Mario has an aversion to his father's trade of fishing, so instead takes the job of postman. He delivers mail on
a bicycle to only a single customer, the famous Chilean poet Pablo Neruda; Neruda has been exiled to Italy because
of his communist views. Mario develops an interest in poetry, and after a while, the two become good friends. In the
meantime, Mario meets a beautiful young lady, Beatrice Russo, in the village's only cafe. With the help of Neruda,
Mario is able to better communicate his love to her through the use of metaphors. Mario and Beatrice are later married,
and at the same time Neruda and his wife learn that they are allowed to return to Chile. Some months after Neruda's
departure and subsequent lack of contact, Mario makes a nostalgic recording of island sounds for Neruda, including the
heartbeat of his unborn son. Several years after, Neruda comes back to the island as a tourist and finds Beatrice and
her son in the same old cafe. She tells him that Mario had been killed just before the birth of his son, at a communist
rally in Naples. He was selected to read his poetry (dedicated to Neruda) for the crowd, but police stormed the rally
before he could reach the stage. Beatrice gives Neruda the recordings of island sounds,
which also record the sounds of Mario's death at the rally.

I already knew what it was about and that it's Italian spoken. I prefer it that way. I can't stand dubbed movies. I like hearing the origonal voices and reading subtitles.

I know that I wouldn't be able to get English or Dutch subtitles if I brought it from Italy but I figured maybe they would have Italian subtitles for the hard and hearing. Right now it's very hard for me to follow Italian while just listening to it, but I think I know enough for reading wise.

I've heard it's an Italian classic so I'm not sure why I can't find it here in a video store that specializes in class forign films and hard to find forign films.

Our old DVD player was region free but I'm not sure if the one we have now is. I'll have to check. It was my husband's grandmother's DVD player.

My husband said he was going to look into downloading it but it so big to download. I also wouldn't know if it has Italian or English subtitles. Does the one you have either English or ITalian subtitles?

Melissa i found my copy at Borders, a book store here in the USA.

http://www.borders.com/online/store/...u=717951000965

I'm not sure how they work international orders, you'd have to read the fine print to see. I'm sure Amazon has it as well, but again i'm not sure how international orders work. Let me know what you find out

It's a good movie indeed, just the presence of Troisi can make any movie good.
Such a wonderful actor, he's godlike.
All his movies are great, though maybe some of the jokes can be lost in translation, also because the use of Neapolitan accent makes it all better.
I suggest Ricomincio da tre and Non ci resta che piangere above all.
Melissa I think it's better if you look for a copy with English subtitles, if the subtitles take literally what they say a perfect Italian won't probably be enough to understand everything.

Thank you for the link Joe.

I'm going to check amazon too. I don't know why I didn't think to look there since I know they are international. We broubht I Love Lucy from there. Well actually my father-in-law did since you need a credit card and we just payed him the money.

Thanks for letting me that it's better for me to have English Zidanie. If I order from Borders or Amazon then I'm assuming it would come with English subtitles.

The one i bought from borders, which should be the link i sent you, is in italian with english subtitles. Just read the description before you buy, it should state what the language is.

I checked if Borders delivers to Holland, but it doesn't. The only European countries they deliver to are England and Ireland. I have no idea why though.

They do have it at Amazon with English subtitles, so I can finally buy it. I just have to wait until the next time my father-in-law orders from amazon.

My husband decided to download the movie with English subtitles.

We watching the movie this evening. It was a really good movie. It made me cry at the end.

I still plan on buying it from e-bay.

Default Il Postino has many layers of meaning hidden behind...

This movie is full of vivid images with metaphorical connotations.
It opens up the world of poetry. It shows how poets get their inspiration for their poetry. They take their
own experiences, and think what things in nature can symbolize them. They use a lot of colors to describe their emotions.
Light colors are used to describe happiness, and dark colors are used to describe saddness. This movie also shows how
lonely the lifestyle of a writer is. Writers seem to be locked up in their houses coming up with new poems. They spend most
of their time rewriting most of their work, and their poems take awhile to get published. Sometimes their poems don’t get
published or become famous until after they are gone.(No sempre) Sometimes they don't get to enjoy their success, or feel
rewarded for their work. Il Postino made me appriecate poetry because I saw all of the work that goes into writing a poem.
