Watched this movie last night. It was a good movie! I liked it. Maybe the movie critics will not like it and not really get it's meaning.
It is a definite 4 to 5 star movie. The movie will take you from laughter to tears within a short time span - that is what a great movie
should and will do. The racist names did bother me but then again Eastwood was playing a bigot racist who in the end reforms and becomes closer
to his new Asian neighbors than to his own family. Then he gives his life trying to protect them. He also leaves his prized posesion
the Gran Torino to his Asian neighbor kid instead of his own son.

If you want to see what racism is like in America then watch this movie. Maybe somethings are a little over done but then again maybe they are under done.
Lot of insight to the Hmong community. One reason I liked this movie. My sister taught the Hmong ESL for 10 years when they first came to the U.S.
I went to several of her classes and the people were just like they were in the movie.

The terms Hmong (pronounced [m̥ɔ̃ŋ]) and Mong ([mɔ̃ŋ]) refer to an Asian ethnic group in the mountainous regions of southeast Asia.
Hmong are also one of the largest sub-groups in the Miao minzu populated in southern China. Beginning in the 18th century, Hmong
groups began a gradual southward migration due to political unrest and to find more arable land. As a result, Hmong currently
also live in several countries in Southeast Asia, including northern Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar-Burma.

In Laos, a significant number of Hmong/Mong people fought against the communist-nationalist Pathet Lao during the Secret War.
When the Pathet Lao took over the government in 1975, Hmong/Mong people were singled out for retribution, and tens of thousands
fled to Thailand for political asylum. Since the late 1970s, thousands of these refugees have resettled in Western countries,
including the United States, Australia, France, French Guiana, and Canada. Others have been returned to Laos under United
Nations-sponsored repatriation programs. Around 8,000 Hmong/Mong refugees remain in Thailand.

There are 275,000 Hmong/Mong people in the U.S. many of which live in California not to far from where I live.

Villa, you were a bit mis leading. This movie has nothing to do with the City of Torino, Italy. It is a "muscle car" of the past. Ford Gran Torino, which Clint has and is also a retired Auto worker. So , if those of you are looking to see something of Italy in this picture, fagettabowdit. Villa, is Director's cut slang for bootleg?
