With a white Fiat Uno as their only clue in a string of violent robberies and
murders along Italy's Rimini Coast, dedicated cops Valerio Maldesi (Kim Rossi
Stuart) and Rocco Atria (Dino Abresscia) are stymied by the troubling case. But
when a fellow officer is killed by the ruthless criminals, the duo must step up
their investigation to stop the reign of terror. Legendary action director Michele
Soavi helms this stylish, blood-spattered thriller.
Review:
A top-notch thriller/police procedural via Italy, UNO BIANCA is one of the best of this kind that I have seen. Made for Italian
television, it dwarfs most of our own attempts at this genre, managing to be thrilling, suspenseful, extremely frightening (due
to the growing build-up as to who the perpetrators are) and--moment to moment--consistently involving. While the levels and management
of the Italian justice system work quite differently from our own, no one should have trouble following what happens--and why. The cast
is fine, too. Italian looker Kim Rossi Stuart shows his acting chops better here than in the French TV version of Stendhal's "The Red &
The Black," and very nearly as well as he does in Gianni Amelio's brilliant "The Keys to the House." The supporting cast, mostly unknown
to me, acquits itself very well, and the taut direction is by Michele Soave (probably best know for his grizzly/funny "Cemetary Man").
The two-disc set (shipped by this service as one movie) totals nearly 3½ hours, yet there's not a wasted minute. This is riveting stuff
and, for my money, one of the DVD "finds" of the year.
Altro review:
At first I wasnt really hooked into what seemed to be a typical cop-show plotline; it was the stuff of regular American TV shows.
But the story becomes engrossing, and I was anxious to watch the 2nd disc (its 2 discs, 1 hour 40 minutes per disc). They do a
great job of ratcheting up the tension in this movie, and the last hour really has your heart racing. It earned its 4 stars.
Altro review:
First of all, to anyone who complains about reading subtitles... The problem is you. Now as far as UNO Bianca, this is a made
for TV movie. There are 2 parts, as it was shows on Italian TV as 2 movies on 2 nights back in 2001. So that clears the mystery
about the length of the movie itself. The story is pretty cool and Michele Soavi does a great job directing this story, which
is based on true events. There is also an interview with some of the people who worked on it. They actually explain some of the
real life evens that took place with the Uno Bianca gang. The acting is very good. The story in the first movie is basically
our 2 main detectives trying to figure out who is the Uno Bianca gang, while the higher ups constantly make their efforts difficult.
The second movie deals with their attempts at infiltrating and taking them down. Things heat up and a lot of the mystery gets exposed.
I really loved these films.
