Question English TV in Italy

Hi everyone Can anyone help me? I love Italy but hate Italian TV. I shall be there for three months in summer and would like to watch English TV. Is it possible? I have my own house there, with TV DVD player etc. I had hoped to buy a DVD recorder with hard drive, record some English TV programs whilst I'm still in UK, then take the machine, plug it in to the TV in Italy and watch what I'd recorded. But not sure if it's possible?? Anyone got advice or solutions?

If you have to stay in Italy for long Sky can be the solution, I see BBC, CNN and so on. Tv channels from all the world.
Or you can watch English TV in streaming on Internet.

One of best ways to practice Italian has been the quiz programs that go on forever.
But Sky is a good way to have the English language programs available.

Tiramisu, In 2007 I rented an apartment in Perugia, Umbria, Italia and went to the Universita di Perugia
per imparare l'italiano meglio. Grazie a Dio I had a television in my apartement and watched Italian TV
every single second I was in that apartment. Would come home after a long day of studying Italian, shopping
in Italian, going to the gym and speaking Italian, sight seeing in Italian and subito I would turn that Italian
TV on. Even when I was cooking, showering or entertaining Italian friends I would have that puppy on listening
to Italian TV. There was this one show where they talked all about dialects in Italy. Era molto interessante!
Just try to imagine missing sosmething like that. My experience in Italy with out that Italian TV would have
only been half as good. Per favore, if you're going to Italy and don't watch Italian TV then why even go?!
In fatti, I once went for 2 whole years not watching English TV. Only Italian. Per l'Amore del Dio Tiramisu, how
else are you going to learn Italian! Per favore! LOL!

I watched Don Matteo spesso(frequentemente) in Italia. Click on the various clips below the screen after watching the first one.

26/12/07 - Don Matteo 6 2008 - Terence Hill - Nino Frassica - Nathalie Guetta - 2° Spot Pubblicità - Intitolato "Buone Feste #2" - Si Ringrazia Rai...

Only with Sky platform, you can watch CNN, BBC, CNBC, NBC, FOX, and so on there.
With normal television you only get 6 national channels plus a billion local ones, all designed specifically for no-brainers.

Why bother with expensive and ugly satellite systems?. It is easy enough just to watch on your PC with on-demand and even some live services being offered by all of the major channels.

Of course these are usually only available to people inside of the UK but I can give you a few methods to watch here.

It is possible to access UK TV on demand sites from Italy in 3 main ways. Some of them are free, some need a little technical know-how and some are simple.

Option 1. Slingbox. This is a piece of hardware that connects to your computer. For this to work you need a friend in the UK with some technical savvy and who doesn’t mind you taking some (!) bandwidth while you are watching. Rather complicated but possible.

2. Using proxy servers in the UK. This method is free but a bit of a B***er to get to work consistently. The easiest way is to install ‘FoxyProxy’ an add-on for Firefox. Then you need to find a UK based proxy which is a) anonymous, b) open and free to use and c) not been blacklisted. These can be found by googling for British free proxies but you have to kiss a lot of frogs to find a prince!. Then you route yourself through the UK proxy server using Foxyproxy, when you want to view.

Another method of using proxies is by setting up Tor. But that is a bit more complicated.

3. By far the easiest, and most consistent method (although not free) is by setting up a VPN. This stands for ‘virtual private network’ and it acts as another connection to the net on your computer.

Although this is not the primary use for a VPN, the nice by-product is that by using a VPN service with UK servers, you will be able to access sites with these geo-restrictions.

They are easy to set up (usually takes just a few minutes) and easy to use. The prices range anywhere up to £20 a month. From all that I have seen out there, I would recommend ADTelly who come in at £5,50 a month.

So, there you go. Lots of options, take your pick
