I want to get a tattoo that says 'Life is for my own' in italian. I've used several online translators but I don't know how accurate they are. Ones they came up with are:

la vita è per mia propria
la vita è per la mia

Which of these would be the best, or can someone come up with better? Thanks.

Well.. My problem is that I do get the general meaning of the phrase but .. I do not quite get it 100% - However both translations you have are surely wrong.
You might be looking for something on the line
La mia vita e' mia
La vita e' mia
...Lets see if somebody comes up with something better

or "la mia vita è mia soltanto"..
the meaning is so general..

I don't understand the English either in "Life is for my own". skeelol, do you mean "it's my life", or is the "own" refering to family as in "me and mine (my own)"?

A tattoo is pretty hard and expensive to remove, so it's best to get it right first time.

There's no translation that would give the exact meaning.
La vita è mia goes close to it, but not enough (it's like "life is mine"), la vita appartiene a me is the closest you can get to an Italian translation, but it doesn't sound good for a tattoo.

But the original "Life is for my own" isn't a good starting point for a tattoo anyway. It sounds very "jerky" and I don't know of anyone who would use this phrase and I can not think of any circumstance where this phrase would be used.
