Ok guess I need to supply some extra explanation of the phrase so it can be more understandably translated.

It's not meant to be jerky/selfish, it means life is for myself, not to be governed by someone else.

It partially comes from a metallica song called 'Escape'

Out for my own, out to be free
One with my mind, they just can't see
No need to hear things that they say
Life's for my own, to live my own way

It seems that 'Life is mine' might be the best way to translate this....

Using a translator I see that la vita appartiene a me translates to 'the life belongs to me', but not sure if this or La vita è mia would be more accurate translation.

I can't really help u with the italian translation, but I think what u r trying 2 say is "It's my life"

Yea more or less....but I'm thinking that 'Life is mine' would just be the best way to translate.
