the comments here are interesting to read - Years back, I also entertained the idea of moving to Italy with my young daughter - but struggled with the idea of removing her from the roots of her family - she was mortified at the age of 11 of the thought of moving to a land where she did not know the language. Now, she's a teenager and is moving in her own social sphere and it mortified at the thought of moving away but for other reasons! Now, I wait until she is a few years older, on her own and I can sell up and leave. Having friends in Italy helps and having spent a few extended periods of time there has also given me a sense of knowing I can move to a new culture successfully.
Good Luck in your decision making Demi!

Parla l'italiano?

Ho vissuto in Italia molti anni fa. Mi piace moltissimo vivere in Italia.

Hi Demi. I read your question and I have to say I agree with the others. I have been living in Italy for 10 years now and it is not easy. I have lived in both the big cities and the small towns. The two largest obstacles you may have are finding a job with a reasonable salary and the adapting of your child to the culture here, school system etc. My children are both still young so I cannot talk about the schools but i have heard that while the elementary schools and middle schools are good, the high schools are quite lacking. I wish you luck and ask that you really put some thought into the move before doing so. www.living-italy.blogspot.com
