Default rubish

I have been to camping Baia Domizia lately and I can confirm that there is no waste management disorder, and indeed waste collection is handled efficiently, now as always. Television shows a lot of problems and mountains of rubish along the streets but I asure you that Campania province is doeing everything to keep the streets clean. Please remember that the immages you see on the televsion are always the same and the south of Italy is not just Naples!!

Thanks Esther for this info. I am Italian and I live in DC and this thing about the Naple area did bother me quite a bit ... I really hope it is not as bad.
Ciao

I saw this on the news too, and it all seemed unreal to me. Glad to see someone who is there can report otherwise. I am curious: exactly why is the media reporting stories that are not true, especially when it is tarnishing to the image of the country?

It is still reported on all the news channels here every day. I believe the main problem is in Naples and the immediate area around it, and as Esther says, it is not affecting the whole of the Campania region.

It still looks pretty bad though

There is a problem, but it is mostly concentrated around Napels. It has been there for the last 20 years and although there was a lot of money send, as usual the italian maffia did all other things with it. It is damaging the immage of Italy and only now they start to realise that also tourism is suffering.

Baia Domizia is only a little place within Campania. A purpose built village - right on the beach and it's mainly 'open' only during the Summer months. There is no rubbish piling up there simply because there are hardly any people in the place at this time of year. It's a holiday complex used as a weekend and summer place by Neapolitans.

The centre and historic areas of Naples are also for the main part clear of rubbish, but the surrounding areas like Pianura and Casoria are buried under the rotting bags of rubbish 3 metres high. It's not right to understimate the size of this problem, but as Esther75 says, it has been going on for many, many years. (I'm 47 now and always remember this spazzatura problem flaring up every couple of years or so).

This was filmed 6 days ago.

Default How are things now?

I wanted to revive this thread to see if anyone has an update on the trash problem. Is it getting any better?

I don't see rubbish for the streets in Naples since November.
