Grazie Villa!

I bought a couple of books recently that I have really enjoyed and found very useful...

English Grammar for Students of Italian
Sergio Adorni, Karen Primorac

This is an awesome book for those like me who couldn't diagram a sentence to save their lives. It introduces each part of grammar and explains it and gives examples in English and then does the same for Italian. In the past my ability to build sentences in Italian was hampered by not being able to dissect or understand what I was doing instinctually in English.

Easy Italian Reader: A Three-Part Text for Beginning Students.
Riccarda Saggese

This book is a reading primer in Italian. It is based on the idea that learning to read in Italian is a fast way to gain basic mastery of the language.

Each chapter follows the story of a cast of characters. Starting with simple sentences and paragraphs and builds as it goes. Each paragraph has a set of vocabulary words and a set of questions in Italian that you are expected to answer in Italian. The book comes with an optional CD that contains all of the book in audio - so that you can use it on your PC or MP3 player - to learn to understand spoken Italian.

Both of these books are under $20 each at Barnes and Noble and probably at Amazon as well. I recommend them as an inexpensive way to get started on Italian.

Ciao,
Carlo

Ciao,

Ciao Carlo. There is a Border's book store just 10 minutes away from my house and a Barnes and
Noble a little farther away. Have just about every book for learning Italian those stores carry
but don't have that "English grammar for student's of Italian." A te sembra possibile? LOL!
Will try and get in presto.

Do you have the big Green Book of Italian Verbs?

Other good books for learning Italian you might like are:

1. Italian Demystified - A self-teaching guide - Marcel Danesi

2. The Everything Learning Italian Book - Michael P. San Filippo - Actually there are two in this series. The Everything Learning Italian Workbook.

3. See it and Say it in Italian - Margarita Madrigal and Giuseppina Salvadori

4. Easy Italian Step-By-Step - Paola Nanni-Tate

5. Italian A self-teaching guide - Edoardo . Lebano

6. Italian Made Simple Cristina Mazzoni - Revised and Updated

7. Better Reading Italian Daniela Gobetti, Ph.D. - Molto piu dificile che "Easy Italian Reader": A Three-Part Text for Beginning Students.
Riccarda Saggese - (That book "Easy Italian Reader" is excellent and better for beginners than "Better Reading Italian".

8. Painless Italian Marcel Danesi, Ph.D - If you think learning Italian is dull and difficult, open this book - and think again!

9. Italian in 10 minutues a day - Bilingual Books - Kershul

10. Lo Dica in Italiano - Giovanna Guglielmo Cavagna

I can second the Big Green Book of Italian Verbs. Excellent book for those of us that struggle with conjugations!

Villa: Hope you can help. I printed off your "Important must words in Italian" however the print is so small I can hardly read the words. Is there any way you could increase the print size? At that point how can I make flash cards right from my computer? Grazie millie JLR455 I have to say, these words are "huge" in importance.
