Default Working with Italian Consulates in US

Hi,
Sorry to bug folks with a new thread on this busy forum. I need to verify that US citizens can get the permesso di soggiorno from a Consulate office (San Francisco in my case) and that this is what you show the police in your Italian town as part of gaining residency. Is this the same thing as a residency visa? When the time comes, I figure we can fly to San Francisco, do the business and return all in one day....maybe not if dealing with real Italians at the Consulate! Har If there are more things than the permesso to do, we must be efficient with our travel! It sounds like residency rules are more lenient for EU and UK residents than for US/Canada/Australian folks.

Is anyone familiar with last wills and testaments in Italy? Specifically Amercian wills in Italy. So far I've found that we need to notarize the American will and add an apostille form available from Oregon Dept of State. My question is -- does this documentation cover my Italian real estate so that an American will can disburse an Italian house to beneficiaries??

Lastly, does anyone know the drivers license needs for living there? How long can an Oregon/International license be valid before having to get an Italian drivers license.

Grazie in anticipo,

Doug,
Have you tried an "expats in Italy" forum yet? Lots of good info here:

Thanks Capsu, I'll have a try with expats forum. Also have a call into a Vice-Consulate here in Oregon (who has a law practice) but no response as yet. dj
