Default Moving to Italy with young children

Hi there,

We're moving to Italy (Abruzzo) later this year for my partner's career. I have a 6 year old son and a 6 week old son and am slightly nervous about moving them to a new country. We're from Sydney Australia and don't speak Italian, yet!

Can anyone tell me what the childrens services are like, i.e. primary school, daycare centres/pre-school for babies, healthcare for young children including immunisation etc.

Also how can I find local expat communities in Abruzzo?

Thanks
Kelly

Default Expat communities in Abruzzo region

Hi Kelly,

I am up here in Milan, but have contacts with many expats, also those who move away from Milan and move to other places in Italy. I am American and belong to several expat groups which are very international. I meet people from all over the world. Abruzzo is a region I don't know much about. Abruzzo is a region in the south of Italy, it is in the Gargano region. There are of course many foreign women here in Italy who have the same concerns that you have about schools for children etc and there should certainly be a support group where you could get advice. I will talk with some people to see if we can find you an expat group in the Abruzzo region.

Karin

I will be in Molise beginning July 7, 2007. I will be living there for a couple of months before I settle on a more permanent place. I am moving alone but I do have some family in Abruzzo that may be able to give you some help.

If you want to keep in touch that would be great. I would just love to meet as many people as possible.
