Default Internet access in Italy...

For those of you who live there: what kind of connection do they have in Italy?
Is DSL or cable available in many areas? How's dial-up? And how much do each of these services cost per month?

Trying to gather as much information as possible in case I do move there next year. Thanks for any replies...

Fast Internet is available almost anywhere except for rural areas.
Dial up is available free of charge but it is - of course - slow.
Cost for fast is about Euro 30 a month ( there are many offer starting at 5 Euro a month but they are only for a limited time )
Fast internet is also available through the cellular network

Default internet in Italy

Hi Augustus: As a frequent long term visitor to Italy, I need my internet access as well! When we first came to Italy, we rented an apartment, but much to my dismay, was in an older area with no direct phone line into the house! Imagine, no phone hookup? My solution to this dilema was to purchase a quad band cell phone which I used as a modem, along with an Internet plan from the cell phone company. It was pay as you go every month, around 25 euros. I found though, that with this option, the phone company would play tricks, and block access during busy periods This trip I bought an Internet Stick with equivalent to high speed access (cost 129 euros, though check the cell companies websites for promotions, you may be able to get one cheaper, or even no charge). For around 30 euros a month I have unlimited access to the internet, but am capped at 5g traffic per month. So check out the cell phone companies, because this way, even when you are travelling you will have internet access wherever you are! Hope this helps.

Very interesting topic... ok, there is an internet connection widely available but how many people have internet connections in home and regularly use it? For instance in Russia, my home country, only small percentage of population use internet at home (somewhere around 10%). How about in Italy?
