The Canadian Dollar is Officially Worth More than the American Dollar
Canadian Dollar Trades Equal to U.S. for First Time Since 1976 ... Back then, the Canadian dollar was worth more than American money. ``It was difficult to make change,'' he recalled. ``So we used to give them a break (and) ...

You gotta be happy about this. Is this helping you living in Italy?
Canadians in general who are retired in Italy must be happy about it.

What about all these books that always cost more in Canada than in the U.S. $14.95 USA - $21.95 Canada - 9.99 UK

Villa ..Joe

Actually Villa that report was in 2007 when the Canadian Dollar was par and did go slightly higher matching the 1976 era. I was young then but remember with my other Italian friends heading every weekend into New York and Atlantic City to party during that period.

The world market evaluates the Canadian dollar in such a stupid method based on Oil we are the third or fourth largest Oil producing nation in the World and the USA largest trading partner. Just imagine we have the most natural resources and no deficit but yet are dollar is less than yours and other countries currency that are in a worse economic state. It just goes to show you how politics plays a major role in our economy. Most of our major companies in Canada are American owned.

We recently were noted as having the best banking financial system and health care system in the world. Our Banks did not suffer the same disasters as other global banks. Our banking institutions are regulated by government (Good for Obama it’s the right approach) and as far as the Health System is concerned you have to keep in mind even thou we are the second largest land mass next to USA (since they bought Alaska) in the world but we only have 38 million people living in Canada. 38 million of a national health care system is not as expensive compared to 350 million Americans living in the USA. So really the US government has its work cut out for them but they are on the correct path by implementing a computerized system not just to control revenues but very good for the medical assistants that work for Doctors.

Mark I know how you feel these last few weeks I have been recieving client request from my partner in Manchester with respect to Brit's wanting to buy properties in the USA and Canada because of the currency. It is a great time for Europeans to purchase properties in North America since the Euro continues to stay strong. Again I would be looking a rental income properties in the USA. Especially where villa (David) is from California...the state is suffering economically and their are some incredible deals on homes in California. San Diego is the best american city to live in for a European.

Difficult for us - what (little) money we have is split between £ and euro - thank goodness we're buying in euro at the moment!
