Default Self Employment in Italy

Does anyone know about self-employment in Italy? Specifically under both the tax and iva thresholds. I need to register to pay the Italian national health contribution, but earn way below 5000 euros p.a. Any advice much appreciated, thanks.

Mark you might be interested to know that the Finanziaria of 2008 has introduced some new rules for the self-employed as far as tax and VAT is concerned. There are concessions for incomes up to 30,000 euro and you don't need to worry about the studi di settore for example.

You can get more information from your local Agenzie delle Entrate.

Grazie CJ - I have to do something, as despite being accepted onto the Italian "NHI", it has since changed - on the day my Italian health card arrived at my UK address, I received a letter here asking me to go to the regional ASL. They suggested the E106, but checking on the 'net, that gives me Italian health cover paid by the UK for 2 1/2 years, after which it's either Italian cover (if I qualify) or nothing at all until I'm 65! Italian bureaucracy may be bad, but the British are outright thieves! 30 years contributions for 2 1/2 years cover abroad - I'm applying for Italian citizenship.
