Default Researching Moving to Italy

Hi. I just found this forum, I just started researching moving to Italy. My husband and I and our two kids are looking at possibly moving somewhere else. We currently live in the southern United States. We know we would like to be very close to a beach, and I have read really good things about Italy, as far as being welcoming to Americans, employment rate, etc. Our kids are young, 9 and 3...I need to know what area of Italy I should research, what day to day life is like, like a typical day in the life of an Italian. Not a RICH Italian, or a rich American, we would be coming over as working class people...we like warmer climates...any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Default Coming to Italy

Well South of Rome the climate is pretty nice all year round. Calabria or Puglia offer very reasonable housing cost ( however with the Euro so high it might not seem reasonanable to you ) - Job opportunities are however not even comparable to the one in the US. People in Italy still tend to work at one place their all life ( boring I think ) and job changes are not as easy.
Tell us if possible someting more about yourself, skills, budject etc - Anyway I am sorry to say that Italy is much more attractive if you are not constrain by a low budject.

Ciao
Paolo

If you are American and want to stay more than 90 days, one of the first things to start thinking about is a Visa.

And don't forget your children. I don't think they speak Italian so you should choose a town with an international school (which are private and so very expensive).
As for the climate, it's so changeable nowadays! Anyway I am sure you will be welcome everywhere in Italy.

Default Visa for Canadians?

Do Canadians also need a Visa? If so how does one go about obtaining one? Thanks

Default Visas for Canadians

Canadians do not need a visa to go to Italy unless they plan on staying for more than 90 days.
if you do plan on staying longer, you can get a visa at your local italian embassy, but... you need a good reason to be over there for such a lengthy period of time.
This could include a visa for : work, study, family, religion, etc.

Default Mio amico Giovanni da Roma needs to be on this thread

Salve(Hello) amynic508 and benvento(welcome)

My amico Giovanni da Roma would be a good one
to hear from on this. He's moving to Italy and while we were
talking awhile back said he was going to do some research
on non-Italians moving to Italy for my benefit.

Italy is a great place to move to and if you can work there and earn euros you'll
be fine. I fell in love with Italy when I lived there for 2 years.

60% of the entire world's art treasures are in Italy. Italy is the cradle of
western civilization. No place on earth more interesting secondo me.(In my opinion)

My suggestion to you is learn the Italian language as much
as possible. Not that many Italians speak English contrary
to popular belief. Besides learning Italian is fun and one
of the best hobbies anybody can have.

(Italian) (Spanish)
A proposito/A proposito(By the way)if you spoke Spanish and or French then Italian would be that much more easy to learn.
However as a mono-lingual English speaker I learned Italian in only around 4 months while living in Italy.
Enlgish vocabulary is 40 to 60% from Latin the language of the Romans. Technically you could say that even English is a semi-Latin
language even though it is considered a Germanic language. (1066 is the defining date for Latin going into English a proposito)

A proposito again, it's not necessary to be Catholic to live in Italy but it could help. A proposito, I'm not catholic but married one.
