Default Moving to Italy

My wife and I are considering moving to Italy for a year beginning the summer of 2008. We are Canadian and have a Villa on one of the most beautiful beaches in the Bahamas. "Cape Santa Maria Beach Resort" on Long Island. We are looking for a smaller town in mid (Tuscany) to southern Italy. If anyone knows of a special small town that they would recommend, please do. Thanks
Frank and Wendy

I recommend Torricella Sicura in Abruzzo. It is smallish with a couple of bars and restaurants, very close to Teramo (55k people) and does not cost a heap of soldi to live there.
No Bidet Villa

Default Moving to Umbria

I suggest you Umbria, and exactly Orvieto. Is a wonderful city with all facilities but enough little. Just 50 Minutes from Rome by train. I just moved in here about 6 years ago and I found myself liveing very well in Orvieto.
Try to search some information on it.
Let me know if you want more information

Default Living in Umbria

Hello,

I am very interested in hearing more about Umbria, and what living there is like. For the new member, (ItalyPrestige), what are the best places to visit and/or live there?

Thanks!

Teresa

hi there, i don't know much about the prices in pescara, i think they're quite expensive but not like rome or any of the bigger cities. some people don't like pescara because it's a modern town with not much character but i think it's great because it has really good shopping and you can walk to the beach which off season is almost empty. lots of good restaurants and bars and plenty to do in the evenings. if you want something smaller with a nice character plenty of lovely old buildings try teramo a lovely city with lots of facilities surrounded by beautiful scenery. best wishes sheila

Default You should have a look at Sperlonga, a little jem on the South Tyrrhenian Sea

Hello Frank and Wendy, hello to you, the Bahamas sound and look great are you actually living the all year in that beautiful island? I have a good knowledge of the Tyrrhenian coast from Liguria to Calabria and I would definitively recommend the stretch of coastline between the town of Formia to Terracina in Southern Lazio, the region of Rome. I have a couple of places in my mind. One is the town on Gaeta, a medieval seaside town 2 hours south of Rome and the other is a smaller village called Sperlonga. The interesting point to consider is that Roma is only one hour by train or two hours by car. Far enough to enjoy the beauty of this territory without huge crowds, but close enough to decide to go out for a lunch and shopping session in Rome if you feel like. I don't know how small (or big ) you'd like the town to be, but for sure that ara of Italy is still relatively undiscovered by international tourism and so still very genuine, with old traditions still alive. Gaeta and its medieval district (St Erasmo and the Borgo) are very picturesque, the town has about 20,000 people, yet is very peaceful for 11 months a year till August when most of Italians are enjoying their holidays all together. The gastronomy is a mix between the Roman and the Neapolitan cuisine, very interesting (and tasty). Sperlonga instead is a lot smaller, a real little jewel on the coast, with a tiny port and very narrow alley crossing the village. You can read and see some of good articles and pics of both the places on these links: http://www.casesulweb.com/italy/property.php (for Gaeta) and http://www.casesulweb.com/italy/Sperlonga/villas.php (for Sperlonga) - The countryside inland is also very attractive and peaceful, with the Aurunci Mountains behind. You can actually see some good panoramic pictures here on lifeinitaly --> go to Image Gallery, then select Lazio Rome (Region section) and you will see some of my pictures there with this area of Italy called the South Pontino. I hope that my advice will be useful.
All the best, ciao!
