An old man and his son are walking beside there donkey on a hot, dusty road.

Passersby begin to comment that the boy should be riding on the strong burro and not walking.

The boy mounts the donkey and soon the passersby begin to find fault with the strong young man riding while his old father walks.

The father mounts the donkey and again those who pass them on the road begin to find fault with the two strong men burdening the animal with their weight.

The two dismount, cut down and fashion a pole from a small tree.

They tie the donkey's feet together insert the pole through them and hoist the animal to their shoulders.

They have to cross a swaying suspension bridge over a ravine; when the reach the center they lose their footing and are forced to throw the donkey into the abyss to save themselves.

The moral of this story is that if you try to please everybody, you’re bound to lose your ass!
