The Last Supper; A Summer in Italy
Last Sunday 5/31/09), the New York Times reviewed The Last Supper; A Summer in Italy, by Rachel Cusk. Cusk, an English woman, spends two months one summer in Tuscany with her husband and two children. The review was mixed commenting that,"She's at her best when she broods, when she allows her earnestness to condense." Apparently the book is heavy on analyzing the art she encounters, "a Cimabue in Assisi...a Raphael in the Uffizi."
She loses favor when she describes people she meets along the way, including fellow tourists.
