I just got my permesso di soggiorno a little while ago and have been informed that I have a 1 Year grace period in which to get my Italian Patente.

I have my US license with Motorcycle endorsement for any size motorcycle. I also have the AAA International translation of this license.

Will I be able to buy and insure a new motorcycle during my grace period?

What is the testing procedure for motorcyles? I can find plenty of info for people that want to drive or get a motorino but not much for le moto. I think I need a "Patente A senza limiti" but do I have to get one with limits first?


I'm just trying to get as much unbiased info as possible before I go to a traffic school that wants to sell me classes.

Also I would love to be able to go get a bike and ride it while I am going through the license procedure.


I have since realized I am missing my residenza because I am waiting for the Questura to fix an error on my PdiS before applying. However in light of this all of my questions still applyfor the day after I get residenza.
