You're absolutely right, Giacomo - these horrible offenses *do* happen in other forums, and each one deserves to be brought to light.
Yet much like a politician, when a priest - a self-proclaimed holy man who has not only taken a vow of celibacy but preaches how others should conduct themselves sexually - the irony screams for a headlines.
And when a teacher has been found to have sexual relations with a student, or a daycare provider has molested one of her or his charges, that person is often terminated from his/her job with extreme prejudice. You don't find them shuffled away to another school or daycare center.
This has not/does not often happened with priests. It's been documented how certain priests were shuffled from parish to parish, sometimes to commit the exact same crime.
