An Italian man found his wife in bed with his neighbourhood priest.

The man decided to return home from work early and was gobsmacked to see his spouse in a steamy clinch with the local holy man.

The jilted man stormed into the local bishop's office to demand the man be punished for having an affair with his wife. Police eventually had to be called to calm him down.

Bishop Angelo Daniel confirmed the 53-year-old vicar - who was a close friend of the couple - was set to be sent away to another parish where he will be "re-educated".

He said: "I have always respected the priest in question and I will continue to respect him. You cannot discount all the good a person has done in their life just because of one mistake."

Well at least it wasn't a kid.
I don't see anything strange in that priest behavior, when Catholic Church will understand that priests are humans with needs it will all get better.
The only thing I can't accept is when one is not consetient (does this word exist?).

Maybe he was carrying out some kind of innovative confessional service. Since society likes a bit of sex and scandal, perhaps this is a part of new strategy to bring the church into the 21st century

In any case, it could have been worse - his wife cheating on him with his best friend for example.

Zidanie, Did you want to say "consentient"? Meaning agreeing or united in opinion. There is also the more commonly used word "consensual" often used in conjunction with sex as in "consensual sex" - both parties agreeing to the act.

I think that as long as you're consentient you can do whatever you want with your body, no matter who you are

But then again, this is the usual Church position when one of their own does something 'naughty' - stuff them into another parish. As of that ever stopped anything...

The problem with preists breaking vows seems to be getting worse here in the states instead of better. Naturally, I do not approve of this behaviour but at the same time I have to say that it seems like our American media is having a field day with bashing preists. I am sure that this happens in many other forums such as schools, daycare centers and even with non catholic clergy...not just the Catholic Church. But, we don't seem to hear about that though.

You're absolutely right, Giacomo - these horrible offenses *do* happen in other forums, and each one deserves to be brought to light.

Yet much like a politician, when a priest - a self-proclaimed holy man who has not only taken a vow of celibacy but preaches how others should conduct themselves sexually - the irony screams for a headlines.

And when a teacher has been found to have sexual relations with a student, or a daycare provider has molested one of her or his charges, that person is often terminated from his/her job with extreme prejudice. You don't find them shuffled away to another school or daycare center.
This has not/does not often happened with priests. It's been documented how certain priests were shuffled from parish to parish, sometimes to commit the exact same crime.
