"Italian court convicts 23 Americans of kidnapping in CIA rendition of Muslim cleric."

This is really a bizarre odd situation. The Americans were tried in absentia. Given that the U.S. government has declined to cooperate with the Italian prosecution, it seems unlikely that any will spend time in an Italian prision. However, the convicted Americans may be at risk if they travel to Europe. Prosecutors have issued arrest warrants that can be executed in any of the European Union's 27 countries.

lol ...Giacomo comment made me laugh....
Ok I posted because I do not know what to think of this. I am sorry for the agents who probably just did their duties and I am puzzled by the amount of money that was given to the victim : "The rendition victim, Hassan Mustafa Omar Nasr, was awarded a provisional one million euros in damages from each of the convicted, while his wife was awarded a provisional 500,000 euros." ...anyway I have no clue on this one. How much the US should pay the people in Guantanamo bay then ? My guess is that several of those people where probably not more of a threat than this guy. This guy was lucky to be kidnapped in Italy.

I have an explanation but it may be not well received by Americans. So I apologize in advance if my opinion will offend anybody.

In the past 10 years the US really lost its original glory (controversial political decisions are largely responsible for it). And according to one of my favorite laws of physics, Law number 3 by Sir Isaac Newton, "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction."

So I think that this law suit happened because of two reasons, counter reaction to many controversial actions done by the US, and for politicians to gain popularity (in Europe now it is a positive thing to show the US its place).

Just sharing my point of view. Always Russian in Heart.

No Russian,

I'm not saying that for sure you are right but as an American I am not offended. You are right about the "for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction." theory!

Never be afraid to offend as long as you are just genuinely expressing your opinion. There's an old saying:

I never learned anything from somebody who I agreed with.

It's interesting too that many people in the USA would agree with you.
