Default Us health debate

Yesterday the title of a Headline news on the Washington Post was: "For French U.S. Heath Debate Hard to Imagine" .... Well I cannot speak for all but for Italian it seems absurd that a wealthy country like the United States has no National Health coverage. I can understand many type debates ( even the one on guns ) but for me debating on National health care is un-immaginable! And one more thing .. a few days ago a friend said he had a over 700 dollar Bill for a Doctor treating his son for 40 minutes - looking at doctor and health care bills in this country I really think there is something wrong. ( Not on the quality which - If you can afford it - is excellent but for the cost )

PS I do not think that even the most right-wind of the Italian politician would talk about eliminating heath care.

In Italy health care is often subject of balance cuts. When the State needs to save money, health care is one of the first things that get the axe.

This said, nobody here would ever think of abolishing National health care. In Italy and Europe, the Nation has to care about the citizens, expecially about their health. A national health system also allows to better monitor and fight events like the swine flu.

And, in the end, for us National health care is a sign of an advanced and civilized country. For Italians is hard to imagine that an advanced and rich country as the USA doesn't provide a national health care system for its citizens.

Unfortunately Italy is the size of California and the US is a free market society. Believe me we care about fellow citizens as much as any country which includes over 5000 different support groups and charities. I am certain their are Italian citizens that are sick or die as a result of the axe you speak of. Here in America to many citizens do not take care of their health and require expensive care including smokers, drug use and alcohol abuse. Not to mention McDonalds and a slew of disgusting fast food atrocities accross the country. Now add in the budget and soon you will understand a gov option will fail.

I quote word by word what Ancos said, Europe has a great focus on the importance of the wellbeing of its citizens, while US seems to be more about the wellbeing of its banks.
And it's true we can't quite imagine it, for me it's a very normal right we have of going to a hospital and be healed even if we don't have money or insurance.
Paxaro it does not matter economy, governing a Nation means in first place caring about its citizens, whoever they are. US are too much obsessed with money, that's all. The map speaks clearly, every country outside the Third World, but USA, has health care. As well as every civilized country does not have "guns for all", not to mention death penalty.

Wow the map shocked me. US is along with many 2nd world coutries is colored in gray.

For me many types of benefits in the US make little if no sense at all. E.g. a maternity leave between 6 weeks and 3 months. No paid maternity leave or disability leave in the first year of employement (I once suffered big time as I torn an ACL - antirior crucial ligament in my knee only 4 months after I started a job. I had to have an open knee surgery and 2 weeks later ON CRUTCHES WITH THE ICE PACK ATTACHED TO MY KNEE I was back to work - I"m sorry this is UNHUMAN). And lastly PTO - personal time off which combines VACATION AND SICK DAYs. and PTO is normally 10-15 days a year. HOW COULD IT BE!!! and how could an aging adult with children and old parents live like this??????????
