Default beach for only women

Tomorrow Rimini will open a beach for only women, it will be off-limits to the men. You can attend classes about cousine and fitness, female staff, but the rescue is submitted to the men, "it's a matter of muscles". Trieste has already one .It was born in early 1900 and it's an exclusive beach for only women and children .
What do you think?

Default Women on the Beach

A beach for only women... I think it's fine. I can see the appeal - a place to go and do what you want without getting stared at, and I like all the classes and things offered. I think many women would like this place a lot, and if you have young daughters it's probably safe to take them there.

And I do like gatherings of women only - it's fun to talk to and interact with women.

BUT, part of the reason I like to go to the beach is to look at the men so... maybe a beach for only women is not for me!

Teresa

Default The Pink Beach

The Pink Beach

Christened ‘The Pink Beach’, the new women-only beach at Riccione has caused much controversy. Some complain that it is meant to cater for Muslim women while some feminists argue that this kind of segregation sends the wrong signals to men.

Beaches are divided into narrow lots in Italy and business is highly competitive. It can be difficult to find new ‘gimicks’ to attract the tourists and even the Italians. The manager of this beach, Fausto Ravaglia, disliked the ‘disco image’ that his beach was attracting because of all the party-goers who frequented it, but he also wanted to attract new business and increase his profits.

He first thought of helping the women preparing for the Miss Muretto beauty contest (which has launched the careers of many Italian TV stars including Simona Ventura) so he created a women-only beach for them. Then he decided to cater for Muslim women who wanted to sunbathe modestly and in accordance with their religious beliefs. Then he decided to make it ‘women only’. It caused a sensation when it was opened by a model, Karina Adebibe, who played Lara Croft.

The beach is decorated in pretty pink and white colors with attractive beach umbrellas and a sign with a picture of a handsome man which states that there are no men allowed. It looks like a very feminine atmosphere in which to relax.

Children are not allowed here either as it is meant to a be a place where women can chat with each other and get away from their family problems for a while. Another advantage is that it is open to women of all ages and that women don’t have to worry so much about their looks without the daunting presence of men.

Mr.Ravaglia did feel compelled to deny that the beach was a lesbian beach. He said that it is designed for women to be themselves.

He also banned loud disco music and even ‘beach food’ to make the beach healthier and more relaxing. Salads and fresh fish are served. Women can also enjoy ‘keep-fit classes, manicures, cookery lessons and even classes in deportment’, according to an article at Europe Euphoria.com.

Many don’t like the idea of this sort of segregation. “This is an oasis of female apartheid,” said Alice Ghresta, 24, a surveyor, according to The Times. “They should put a eunuch at the entrance, like in a real harem.”

Some feminists, like Jessica Valenti, think that excluding men is not the best way to prevent harassment. She wrote in The Guardian that the onus should be on men to stop harassing women instead.

Women-only beaches, hotels, gyms and sections on public transport are a growing trend and increasingly popular. As the women on this beach say, “What is wrong with getting away from men for a while, especially if it lessons the danger of harassment?”

This leaves me with decidedly mixed feelings and no easy answers. Is the idea of a space space a good way to make boundaries or is it just perpetuating the idea of the victimhood? Does it take the 'burden' of politeness off of men?And is the very idea of a 'pink' beach that offers courses stereotypical to (a man's idea of) a woman in itself degrading? (I ask this wondering what a women-only beach designed and run by women would be like in comparison)

I think it could work but it will be hard for married women to attend. As beach and vacation are often synonyms and married women vacation with their husbands...

However, it is an enjoyable getaway... :-) I can see it.

And I agree with Violetta attendees should not give up on sex appeal :-)
