Russians travel to Cuba too... Castro likes us ;-) Russians and Cubans had open borders during the soviet era. I'm not sure it still holds now.

I missed my chance as the idea to travel to Cuba and the whole situation between the US and Cuba occured to me days after I became a US citizen. I simply was too busy with the grad school and didn't think about it before hand... Otherwise I would have traveled there. But I still hope I'll have a chance in my life time.
On a separate note, it is true, that Italian and Spanish languages are very similar. Even though Italian is not my native language, I can convers with Spanish people about basic subjects, such as ordering food. The similarity between the two languages is not unique to Italian and Spanish. Just an interesting exaple, Russian language is very similar with Bulgarian and Ukranian languages and to some degree with Polish language. People from these four countries can speak their respective languages and understand each other (of course the subjects need to be simple).
