Default Via Francigena

Ciao all you hardworking Life-in-Italy administrators!

The article, HIKERS GET WEB PORTAL FOR MEDIEVAL PILGRIM`S ROUTE | Italy, about the Via Francigena and a web site about modern day travel on it really piqued my interest. When there are more details (like a URL) I hope you'll post the information here in the Online Community section.

I also enjoyed Justin's article here on Life in Italy very much (The Via Francigena: A Pilgrimage to Rome | Italy). We've had the opportunity to visit many of the places along the route Justin describes but didn't appreciate the significance of Via Francigena. Thanks Justin!

Garzie!

My house in Bolsena is right on Via Francigena - Right next to my house there is a nun convent with a large building outside. The building is used nowdays to host pilgrims... Yes it is still going on - actually all started back in year 2000 - I should interview the nuns next time I go.

I remember last summer I always thought of pilgrims like dressed in black or grey or something like that. My yard is next to the nuns yard and I remember I was surprised to see the German female pilgrims undergarment out to dry on a line. Well this pilgrims where young, good looking, casually dressed and wore more of a Victoria Secret type of undergarment than one of a nun, my first thought was wow maybe I should go into pilgrimage :-)

LOL Paolo! If you go maybe I can join you! Although Jennifer might not approve of such a "pilgrimage"... ;-)

We've traveled through Bolsena on a couple of occasions. Of course one was a visit to Civita di Bagnoregio. We also drove through coming from the agriturismo we were staying at in Orte on the way to Sorano and Sovana (we took the scenic route). That is beautiful country and not heavily touristed.

Yes I think it is one of the most beautiful places - Also because Bolsena offers a clear water lake and that allows visitors to mix visiting artistic cities ( too many to list in that area ) to lake activities. I would like one day to organize a Life in Italy meeting in Bolsena. Another nice side that it is inexpensive to stay in that area as well

If you do organize such a meeting you can count of two of us to attend. Northern Lazio is a well kept secret and, as you say, it has many interesting places to visit. We could all go to Parco di Mostri and hide among the sculptures. OK, just kidding.
