Como & Florence tips
Hi, wonder if anyone can quickly recommend a few things.
Going to Italy again in a few weeks but only for 5 days. I'm arriving in Bergamo but don't want to waste any more time seeing Bergamo or Milan etc. So I'm thinking of going to Lake Como for a day. I am interested in visiting Varenna - has anyone been? It looks nice! What about Lecco, is it worth a visit? I'm also going to Florence. I'll have just under 2 full days to explore it. I thought about going to Fiesole. Is it recommended? Of course there will be plenty to keep me occupied in Florence but being from a small town myself I feel you get that "authentic" feel about a country when you get out of the city. Thanks in advance. varenna
opt for Varenna. it's quite romantic. spend a couple of hours just walking around--it's very small. Eat at the restaurant on the beach near the mouth of the river (the owner is Enzo). He serves a mean fritto of lake fish (very generous). You can take the ferry across to Bellagio (15 minutes) for shopping/people watching. the train from milan takes only 45 minutes and very cheap.

Romano, thank you for the tips. I'll be sure to try visit the restaurant. I absolutely love fish!
I am travelling from Bergamo, so assume I have to take the train to Lecco and change to Varenna. Would that be correct? |

i haven't travelled from Bergamo, so I don't know. The train to Varenna is a local Intercity. It doesn't even have conductors.
