Default Cinematic, beautiful area for a film?

Hi!

I'm a filmmaker from Sweden and I'm preparing a film story that takes place in Italy. I have been around some, but it was a while ago, and I'd just like to get some advice about good locations.

What I am searching for is a coast village, rather small, that is beatifully and dramatically set right at the sea, preferrably with azur-blue sea and high rocks/mountains surrounding. The village itself should be "climbing" on the mountain and should be full of old houses, a very traditional atmosphere with medieval roads and houses etc. It would be good also if a city is not too far away.

Any good tips?

Thanks

Urban

Hej Urban, valkommen!
The first town which came in my mind is Sperlonga, it's moreless as you described it, and a really breathtaking place! Google provides pics
Also, many of the towns in Le Cinque Terre adhere to your wishes, and also some other town in that zone, especially Lerici. To see pictures of it,Google keeps providing

Then there are many many others, Italy has a lot of sea and a lot of medieval towns, so I'd say at least 20 or so towns are perfect. Most of Calabria is a fertile ground to find what you're looking for, also

Many of the most precious towns, though, probably have a very strict policy about allowing filmmakers to film there, you'd have to ask permissions and such I suppose!

Hi pellicola

Why not try Castiglioncello? OK, I'm biased, but it did feature in the film Il Sorpasso.

Dear Pellicola,
Hmm. I was doing some armchair travelling only a half hour ago and I discovered this place.....And my thoughts were only that I wished that I was a film maker so I could use this place as a backdrop.

And then only a few moments later I found your post: a film maker looking for a location..

I have found the world's second greatest location for film makers.
Lake Como takes some beating, this is just as good, maybe better, depending on the type of movie.

We need to talk you and I.
