Default Milano to Venezia

Hello Manoi,
There are numerous trains that leave Milan for Venice, but I recommend taking the earliest direct train since Venice gets very crowded. Beat the tourist rush by getting there before the tour buses do.

If you have time I really suggest getting to Venice early and then staying at least one night. After the tour busses leave, Venice is left to Venetians and you can walk the narrow streets and alleys without the masses of tourists. Venice does not really have a nightlife and everything closes around 11 PM but a walk along the canals at night will give a new meaning to the term "La Serrenissima"

The Italian Train network has a website where you can check train timetables in english: http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html

Good luck, have fun and take lots of pictures

Hi Manoi
No I've never lived in Venice but I have visited on a few occasions. However I have never visited in December. I've been told that it can be rainy and very cold since the Alps are so close. It will be much colder than Bangkok so be prepared.

Another thing to keep in mind is the Acqua Alta - extreme high tides that can leave Venice underwater and are most common during November and December. Check weather reports and you will need some waterproof boots and umbrellas. You can still visit during these times but the entire city is reduced to walking on elevated planks and many shops and historic sites (especially Basilica San Marco) may be closed when the water is at its highest.

Let me know if you need more information..
Justin
