Default Italian Christmas dinner

Italian Christmas dinner is December 24
A few years ago I went to my in laws house a few years back for Christmas dinner. Well on the 24 around 5pm ( they do live in the countryside) I was offered a sandwich and a banana. I refused thinking I would spoil dinner to come. Well ... after a while I sadly discovered that that was the dinner. My wife who did spend several Christmas dinner in Italy on the 24 only then told me that in the US Christmas dinner is the 25 at 12!

Please see the video here

Italian Christmas dinner is the 24 and it is traditionally no meat - On the 25th you can have meat for Lunch ( Christmas lunch ) - So the video is showing a possible Christmas lunch

Paolo,

I'm so sorry....you are right not alot of Americans place much importance on Christmas (the 24th) dinner.

Imaginge my husbands surprise at all the fish he was served upon his first visit to my parents house when we were first married. ...And my complete dissapointment at the lack of enthusiasm (at least from my perspective) for the holiday when I was at his folks.

Over the years it has been great fun to teach him how to celebrate the holiday. Now if I miss ONE thing he notices.

I'll bet you are a great dad/husband. Teach them what you know. (I'm sure you already have) We were always so proud (we still are)that our father was Italian...we were very enthusiastic to do anything the way he wanted and so was my mother.

As my father always said...if you marry an Italian, you become Italian!

What happened specifically at your house?
