I was completly fasinated with Italian cigarette warnings the last time I went to Italy in 2007. I collected a bunch of the boxes.
There was nothing like this prima(before)when I lived there for 2 years.

This is a great Italian language lesson at the sametime. (Danno inspired me to do this thread a proposito.)(by the way)

1. Il fumo uccide(eel FOO-moh oo-CHEE-dee) / Il fumo può uccidere. (Smoking kills / Smoking may kill)

2. Il fumo danneggia gravemente te e chi ti sta intorno. (Smoking heavily damages you and whoever is around (near) you)

3. I fumatori muoiono prima. (Smokers die early.)

It's an "EU" thing - the UK has exactly the same warnings (in English obviously). We have to be told that smoking is bad for us, the same as packets of peanuts carry the warning "Caution - may contain nuts" (may??? what else "may" there be in the packet?)

The nanny state looking after all of us daft people, although it does beg the question - if you don't know salted peanuts contain nuts, are you able to read the label?

Cigarette packs to carry graphic picture warnings. The picture warnings will start appearing on cigarette packs from October 1 ...
