Default Anyone know of a drink called Caffè Caffè in Napoli?

A friend of mine just got back from Napoli and we were having a discussion about coffee in Napoli. He told me he had a newer drink called a "caffè caffè". He described it as being really dense and creamy and served in a glass. Has anyone had this before and know how to make it?

I lived in Napoli for 3 1/2 years and never heard of it. Maybe it was a specialty of a certain bar. A caffe machiatto is something close.

It sound to me that it could just be a way of saying: "caffe' caffe' " could be used as an expression for "real coffee" - Some places says joking that in real coffee the spoon has to stand up ( because it is so dense ) -

I don't think so, because it is not served in a traditional demitasse or cappuccino mug, but rather a glass. He also mentioned a something about a "swirling" machine. I'll have to give him a call and get more detail.

Coffee can often be served in a small glass in Naples. I've never heard of "Caffè Caffè" though - but I'll ask some Neapolitan friends in Naples about it for you and let you know.

Never heard it in 3 years, at least never meaning a particular type of coffee, it could indeed be used to ask for a good coffee, but I doubt it as it's always good here!

I think I remember an advert for it.

It is like a soft serve coffee, very commercial, I do not think you could makie it at home (and nor would you want to). I thought it looked very peculiar. Mind you the only place I saw the poster was at a cafe in Vomero (which was really expensive, maybe because we sat down?)

I did not see it any of the old man places we frequented (I have developed a rule; the more old men the better the food, coffee, wine and better the price!)

Still miss my breakfast of cappacino and sfogliatelle...and then my afternoon macchiato.

Yes Aliena, in some of the most famous coffee shops in Naples, they serve it in a small glass. They have different flavour and drinking it is a really unbelievable experience. The best is "Il Professore" (the professor, of the coffee of course) in via Toledo (or via Roma, is the same) very close to Piazza del Plebilscito.
