Default White night

I keep hearing about this whole "white night" thing, but I don't know what it means, does anyone here know that can explain it to me?

Apparently its pretty cool, but no idea what it really is!! Let me know people!

Default white night

Hi Dan!

White Night is an Italian invention (but I'm not sure). It's organized in a city and include events in the squares, concerts, open museum, open stores for all night long.
That's a very great time.
The most famous white nights in Italy are in Rome and Milan.
Many people from all of Italy reach the city by on pourpose train. Metro works all night and also cabs and buses.
For one night long the city lives like during the day or more. You can go to watch movies, theatre, museum, concerts, make shopping, go around and drink in pubs.
I remember white night in Rome in september 2003 when there was the worst black out of italian history after the second war world; it was so funny at the end of white night in rome nothing worked anymore ;-)

Default White Nights in Rome

How can we find out when they have these great nights? I would enjoy spending all night in a Rome that was open just as if it were day!

Default La Notte Bianca

This night happens every year around the 9th of September--- I do remember the BLACKOUT, it was awful for people that were not able to get home...it looked something like the movie with jeff bridges...Escape from New York. http://www.prisonflicks.com/reviews.php?filmID=53

Default Black out in Italy vs Black out in the US

I heard about the blackout, why would Switzerland do that to Italy? I saw a picture from space of Italy, the entire country was dark!!!

Found it. Thats amazing, as crazy as when the east coast here lost power for awhile.

Red face Dan!!

I get white nights just about every winter were I live!! Going around the house with a flash light or a candle when it rains and thunders...and the light system goes out!!

Default White Nights

MM -

Where do you live that you have white nights so often?
I used to live in the mountains of Colorado. We kept candles and flashlights handy all the time in the winter.

Now, not so much.

I have sworn never to live in that kind of cold again... though I must say, if my choices were to be warm in the USA, or cold anywhere in Italy, I'd be on the first plane to Rome.

You may like to know that the Italian for a sleepless night is 'notte bianca' which is why these nights of celebration are so called - nobody bothers going to bed!!

Last Saturday was white night in Italy, and we have an article and more pictures there, and some here too. These images are courtesy of Pasquale!

You can find the article by clicking here
