Default SPAM on the Forum

If I wanted SPAM I would go to my email inbox, I don't expect to get it from this forum , space 188.

I agree Danno. It really is annoying to see the Forum filled up with this stuff. I know Paolo tries to keep it off and usually he removes these posts quickly. I think it is hard to keep these people off completely.

The only way to prevent spam is to have somebody cleaning up 24 hrs a day but right now the forum is not making any money so ... we always go back to the same old money problem.

Default Spammers on Lifeinitaly

I try and delete as many spams as I can when I am online. I have not been on the forum for a while, but now I am back, and raring to zap some of these spammer chaps. I only wish I knew how to block their IPs from the forum, because sometimes the same people keep spamming and there is not a thing I can do other than give infraction and delete the spam.

Hi Paolo
Spam is a problem.
If I can I send them a message telling them to go elsewhere.
What else can we do? We all have lives to lead.
When I access my email the first thing I do is delete all unwanted messages.
You can usually tell what is what, by looking at the addresses, or who sent them.
I console with you and thank you for your efforts, which must be a chore.

Keep up the good work and thanks aagain...

Peter

Paolo thanks for cleaning that up. I guess it is an easy and cheap way for someone to advertise.
Gratzie MIlle!

most of this kind of spam is done by spam robots, so the only thing you can do is delete it and ban that user. We're not the only forum using vbulliten software that has spam issues. I find that is comes is waves.

As a matter of fact I once saw online a "spam forum" - it was a joke forum that was set up just to let those spam bots find it and post on it. needless to say every post except the one - by the owner introducing himself- was a post from the spam bots.

I run my own forum. We have had a lot of trouble with people
posting porn. Like justindemtri says it's done by spam robots or in my forum's case porn spam robots.

We have 11,627 registered users of which the big majority are of course spammers of the porn type.

I run two forums using phpBB2 and spammers are truly a nightmare. For registration the user has to enter letters and characters from a graphic in order to complete the registration process and no one is admitted until we approve their registration - that kills all of the robots. What is amazing is that there are real humans who search for these forums and register so they can include a URL for a spam site or post a spam message. When they succeed they are paid about 30 cents for each post/URL.

Those are the tough ones and that's why we've resorted to manual approval. Our forums only have about 300 members each so it is a reasonable workload. That probably wouldn't work for Life in Italy.

Paolo - can you use some volunteers to help scan for and delete spam (and the registrations)?

Ciao ciao,

Steve
