Default Not so broadband

When I moved into my house 3 years ago, here 10 miles outside Cagliari, I was stunned to discover that boadband/ADSL wasn't available . I made enquiries as to when it would be but got nowhere. What frustrated me even more is that I could see houses from my study window that were in a zone covered by ADSL, and that's where it stopped . Anyway as of a week ago I now live in an area covered by ADSL, at the blistering speed of 2Megs !
Then I received a newsletter which gave a league table of countries which have the best ADSL service (based on speed and cost per Mbps)

1 Korea
2 Japan
3 Iceland
4 Finland
5 Netherlands
6 Sweden
7 France
8 Denmark
9 Norway
10 Canada
11 Belgium
12 United States
13 Switzerland
14 Australia
15 Austria
16 Portugal
17 United Kingdom
18 Germany
19 Italy
20 Luxembourg
21 Spain
22 New Zealand
23 Ireland
24 Poland
25 Czech Republic
26 Hungary
27 Greece
28 Slovak Republic
29 Mexico
30 Turkey

I hear tales of free internet access in the US, oh how I wish I could surf faster, then maybe I would be able to fully enjoy this site's photo gallery!

Default Fast internet in Italy

Sardoman
There are now cards that goes into the slot of the portable computer. The cards are Euro 30 ( for up to 30 hours a week ) and Euro 60 ... all you can eat.

I bought a house in Bolsena where they are bringing internet in the next few months. I already subscribed since it is only 20 euro a month so I can work whenever I will be there

Default Italy and Internet Waves

Dont feel bad, I too am in the outskirts and it stops and goes and stops and goes while I'm on line. The good part of the waves stop at the bottom of the hill and I'm on top. I even wonder now if I am going to get this message on or not.

Default the world wide weave

It's all part of life's rich tapestry! How boring life would be if everything worked well all the time.

Old thread I know, but times (for me at least) have changed! We have signed up to Telecom Italia - 'phone calls free to the UK, Europe as a whole, and I believe USA too, for 10 euro a month, 7 meg broadband + wireless router 23 euro a month, plus the usual rental and local/urban charges (broadband is twice as fast, and nearly half the price, my sons pay in the UK - calls are cheap too).

I carefully researched 'net access whilst still in the UK, and saved up and bought a "top of the range" datacard (basically a mobile 'phone card to take a SIM, to connect the laptop through TIM etc.), so I would be online and in contact with my sons as soon as we bought the SIM card and enjoy reasonably quick connection.

Not so - same as jacqueline - works OK for 10 mins or so if you sit at the edge of the balcony (no mean feat in November!), then dies..............I'm also up a hill - it worked slightly better at Mamma's flat in the town, but was still "iffy". Beware! If you're out of the main cities, up hills (or probably down dales too), your mobile connection may not be as good as you hoped!

I'm pretty sure this free internet access in the US is not legal. Granted my internet is fairly cheap, $20 a month for DSL. If you know of a legal way to get free internet access here, please let me know lol.

I have been enjoying ADSL for a few months now, I feel like I have been given a new lease of life. So far no downtime or slowing up, mind you the tiscali corporate HQ with all its servers are only 10 km away...
This post is bound to be the kiss of death for my internet access !
